Kottayam: The Archbishop Kuriakose Kunnacherry Foundation’s award for excellence in public service this year, in memory of the first Metropolitan of the Kottayam Archdiocese, Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry, has been presented to the renowned doctor and former head of the Medicine Department at Kottayam Medical College, Dr. Mathew Parayil. Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer presented the citation and the cash prize of Rs. 50,000 at a function held at the Kottayam Darshana Auditorium. The Governor expressed great happiness in presenting the award to Dr. Mathew Parayil, noting that Father Kunnacherry was a person of social commitment and great vision. The ceremony was chaired by Justice Cyriac Joseph, the Chairman of the Archbishop Kuriakose Kunnacherry Foundation. Kottayam Archdiocese Metropolitan Mar Mathew Moolakkatt delivered the memorial lecture. Changanassery Archdiocese’s designated Metropolitan Mar Thomas Tharayil and Kottayam Archdiocese Auxiliary Bishop Geevarghese Mar Aprem were the distinguished guests at the event.
